What You Should Know! Cordal Surgery

Wisdom teeth surgery is a simple, minimally invasive and almost painless intervention that is carried out to remove wisdom teeth (also called wisdom teeth).

The surgical technique consists of anesthetizing, with local anesthetic, the peripheral area of the piece to be removed. Then, through a small incision, and with the help of specific instruments, the extraction will be carried out, avoiding injuring the surrounding structures and teeth.

After extraction, the area is checked to verify that there are no remains of the extracted piece or bone spicules that could complicate the post-operative period. The closure of the wound will be carried out with resorbable sutures or with surgical suture (this is removed between 5 and 8 days after the intervention). During the 40 to 60 minutes after surgery, a bent gauze will be left in the intervened area exerting pressure to promote hemostasis.

The intervention is carried out, as a general rule, with local anesthesia plus sedation. In the case of a multiple extraction (the 4 wisdom teeth at the same time) it could be performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the procedure is between 20 and 40 minutes.

When is it indicated?

Treatment is indicated when the appearance of wisdom teeth is accompanied by discomfort such as:

  • Inflammation in the area of the emerging choral
  • Persistent pain in the area
  • Formation of cavities in the second molar
  • Difficulty in carrying out proper dental hygiene
  • Pressure on the entire dental structure
  • Makes prosthetic correction difficult

Service information

Before (preparation)

A preoperative study will be carried out and asked about the medications you usually take, in case it is necessary to temporarily suspend their administration.

Before the intervention, you must follow a protocol of fasting, hygiene and/or taking medication that will be indicated by your surgeon.

You must not wear any metal objects during the operation: rings, bracelets, earrings, piercings, etc.

After (recovery and results)

The intervention is ambulatory with a hospital stay of between 1 and 2 hours. During your stay in the hospital, cold compresses will be applied to the outside of your face to alleviate inflammation.

The incorporation into working life is immediate, between 12 and 24 hours after the intervention, respecting the medical indications.

Inflammation, swelling and discomfort in the intervened area will persist for about 3 to 5 days.
